Visiting a New City

This is the first short story that I made for my Beginning Fiction Workshop class during the Spring 2019 semester. Each short story had to be around 2-3 pages, and each short story assignment had to focus on a specific aspect of fiction writing. This one focuses on showing. Many writers are familiar with the phrase "show, don't tell." Readers are generally more interested in a story that shows the actions and emotions rather than just spelling everything out to the audience. I used to really struggle with this (especially in the stories that I've written as a kid), but I'm slowly getting better at showing instead of telling.
I consider this work to be a prompt rather than an actual story, but it is a good start for this class, and I did get an A- on it. Professor Stephen Gutierrez felt that it was clearly written, but he would have liked to see the drinking game. That's where the real action is!
