An Unexpected Date

This short story assignment had me focus on character. It's important to get your audience to be interested in your characters by clearly showing their emotions, personality traits, thoughts, actions, dialogue, and appearance. The best characters in stories are those whom your audience can relate to.
For this story, I wanted to create a character who was socially awkward, and I also wanted to make him the kind of guy who may be seen as a "nerd" by some people. He actually happens to like some of the things that I like. A lot of us have the same emotions that he does when meeting someone new for the first time, which I'm sure some of you could relate to.
Professor Gutierrez felt that this story was fun, energetic, and real. He gave it an A- and added that we will be learning more about point of view writing in class. He feels that it would have been cool to see this same story told in Robert's perspective (first person).
This was perfect for me to write the day before Valentine's Day!
