A Nap on the Beach is one of the most difficult poems I ever had to write.  This form of poetry is known as a metric poem, which means that the words must stick to a particular beat.  For instance, this poem maintains a 4-beat rhythm.  If you read it carefully as if it were a song, you should be able to notice it.

My professor found it impressive that I located the setting of this poem in a specific time and place and created concrete details while maintaining a rhythmic pattern.  She did feel that some stanzas are more vivid than others (the second stanza isn't as strong), and that I should add more specific memories of the past.

Just so you know, I don't know how to surf and I've never surfed before.  I just felt like it would be fun to create a persona as someone who really is in touch with the waves.  That is the beauty of poetry, that you don't always know who the speaker specifically is.
