This is the third poem I wrote in my Spring 2019 poetry class.  This type of poem is called a couplet, which means there are two lines in each stanza.  I was assigned this type of poem in February, and in March, we each had to pick one of our poems to revise.  I chose to revise A Forest in Flames because I felt like this was the easiest poem for me to make changes to at the time.

I was inspired to write a poem based on the wildfires in California that had been going on at the time.  It explores the devastation and tragedy that comes from such a disaster, but it also has a symbol of hope at the very end.  This is also the first time I attempt to rhyme in my poems.  I actually find it difficult to rhyme, but my professor showed us a rhyming dictionary online, and that helped me come up with both regular rhymes and "slant" rhymes (words that sounds similar but don't rhyme exactly).

I like nature and appreciate its beauty, and I believe that natural settings must be preserved for future generations.
